Rick Van Velsor is an industrial designer and creative director with over 25 years of experience bringing innovative products, experiences, and events to life. His career began in the fast-paced worlds of theme parks, theatre, entertainment, and large-scale special events, where he held progressively senior leadership roles and developed a deep appreciation for storytelling, logistics, and flawless execution.
Driven by a passion for design and an independent spirit, Rick founded his first design agency in 1998—Fun Haus & Big Bang Toys—specializing in toy, game, and action figure design. His work has partnered with some of the most recognizable names in the industry, including Marvel, Hasbro, Fisher-Price, McFarlane, Universal, Toys“R”Us, and OgoSport.
Alongside his professional work, Rick earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute, where he later returned as an Adjunct Professor, sharing his real-world experience with the next generation of designers.
In 2003, Rick expanded his creative reach into entertainment and live events, managing and producing large-scale operations in Central Park, New York City, and collaborating across the fashion, music, and art industries. This evolution ultimately led to the creation of Eventures Entertainment LLC in 2015—a studio built at the intersection of vision, planning, and execution, where design, storytelling, and experience converge.
Today, Rick continues to explore new creative territory. He is currently designing collectible Christmas ornaments in partnership with Marolin GmbH in Germany, and is preparing to release his fantasy novel Krampus Kingdom, a follow-up to The Dragons of Blizzard Island.
When he’s not designing or writing, Rick is part of the operations teams behind major endurance events, helping manage marathons in New York City, Jersey City, and Philadelphia—because, apparently, he doesn’t believe in standing still.
